1. Kids' Keynote Presentation by George Taylor, Oregon Climate Service
   
   • GIS and its Use in Science, Education, and Decision-Making
   • 11:15-12:00, Austin Auditorium, LaSells-Stewart Ctr, open to the public
   • George H. Taylor is the State Climatologist for Oregon, and a faculty member at Oregon State University's College of Oceanic and Atmospheric Sciences. He manages the Oregon Climate Service, the state repository of weather and climate information, and supervises a staff of ten. Mr. Taylor is past president of the American Association of State Climatologists. He is a member of the American Meteorological Society and has received certification as a Certified Consulting Meteorologist by the Society. He also has a California Lifetime Community College Credential. He has published over 200 reports, symposium articles, and journal articles. Prior to joining Oregon State University in 1989, Mr. Taylor operated his own consulting business in Santa Barbara, California. Previously he was employed as a meteorologist by North American Weather Consultants and Environmental Research and Technology. He holds a B.A. in Mathematics from UCSB and an M.S. in Meteorology from the University of Utah.

3. Demonstrations, Maps - LaSells-Stewart Center
   
   • 10:00-2:00 - "Vendor Fair" and demos - Local businesses in Corvallis and units on the OSU campus will share and demo their GIS products, projects, and related technologies (e.g., GPS).

4. GPS Hike for ~480 local Corvallis middle-schoolers and their teachers
   • Several routes across the south side of campus around Reser Stadium and other buildings, in groups led by an OSU student or staffer with a Garmin GPS receiver

7. Keynote Presentation by Tim Holt, OSU Forest Science
   
   • Games Get Serious: Computer Games for Visualization and More
   • WEDNESDAY, Nov. 15th, 3:00-4:00, Richardson 313, open to the public
   • free refreshments
   • Tim Holt is a Senior Faculty Research Assistant at Oregon State University, in Corvallis Oregon. There he currently works on serious games projects for the Oregon State College of Forestry, plus works on other serious games projects with the research community at Oregon State and other locations. At Oregon State University since 1985, Mr. Holt worked for many years as Marine Technician for the research vessel R/V Wecoma, participating and assisting coordination of numerous scientific research missions around the world. Mr. Holt also has professional game development experience, having worked with Valve Software (makers of Half-Life 2) as one of the original of the WW2 First Person Shooter game "Day of Defeat". His primary role was level/environment creation while also managing online community relations.

   The goal of these events is to educate kids about how geography, through the technology of GIS, affects their everyday lives.
